چکیده

In crosswell seismic experiments, seismic sources are red in one well, and the waveeelds generated are measured in another well. The goal of the crosswell seismology is to nd physical parameters, especially the velocities, of the rocks between the wells from these measurements. This amounts to the mathematical problem of solving a coeecient inverse problem of the multidimensional acoustic wave equation. The two common inversion methods traveltime tomography and waveform inversion via output least squares have some unpleasant features from the viewpoint of numerical computations. We present a new waveform inversion method { diierential semblance optimization (DSO) { in this paper under the non-caustic assumption. The main result is that the objective function is smooth and a critical point is kinematically close to the true velocity model if the noise level is low enough, the source wavelet is oscillatory enough, and the DSO parameter is small enough.

Viscoelastic Modeling and Inversion of a Marine Data Set

Deterministic waveform inversion in the p ? domain permits estimation of the long-wavelength p-wave background velocity, the short-wavelength elastic parameter uctuations, and the energy source for a marine data set from the Gulf of Mexico. The forward map is a convolutional model for p-wave primaries-only seismograms of viscoelastic, layered media. Two types of inversion (output least squares ...

Inverting Waveforms for Velocities in the Presence of Caustics

Transmission caustics cause velocity estimation techniques based based on straightforward analysis of image volume moveout to fail. For example the diierential semblance objective function (a quantitative measure of image volume moveout) is smooth and has only kinemat-ically correct critical points when the incident waveeeld is free of caustics, but loses these properties when caustics are pres...

High Frequency Asymptotics and Velocity Estimation

Diierential semblance is unique amongst velocity inversion objectives in having well-deened and smooth high frequency asymptotics. A version appropriate for analysis of CMP gathers and layered models is particularly easy to analyse and economical for numerical experimentation. For model-consistent data, the DS objective measures the error in RMS velocity, weighted by the energy in the data-with...

On Crosswell Traveltime Tomography

In this paper, we give a theoretical analysis of the crosswell traveltime tomography. In the single arrival case, we prove that the objective function is smooth, and every critical point is a kinematically correct velocity model. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the properties we prove and the diierence between traveltime tomography and waveform inversion via the output least squ...

Extended Reflection Waveform Inversion via Differential Semblance Optimization

Reflection-based waveform inversion introduces migration and demigration process to retrieve low-wavenumber component from reflection data, but both differenceand correlationbased methods suffer from the cycle-skipping problem when the time shifts change rapidly. In this abstract, we introduce model extension and differential semblance optimization into reflection-based waveform inversion. With...
